Just a stone’s throw from the circling seagulls and pebbly shoreline of Cowes Esplanade is 88 Baring Road - a spacious, stylish and contemporary home, built high enough up the hillside to enjoy enticing views of the Solent (and the many ships sailing through it).

The space

Split over three levels, this restful and relaxing home makes a perfect base for exploring the seaside town of Cowes and the rest of the Island beyond. Once through the door there is the sleek and shiny kitchen/breakfast room overlooking the front garden and an airy open-plan living/dining area with 42 inch Smart TV and bi-fold doors leading out onto an impressive elevated terrace - definitely the place to wine and dine during the warmer months.

On the first floor guests will discover four inviting bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin bedroom all of which share a bathroom) and a master with en suite shower (and nifty private dressing room) located on the lower ground floor. At this level you can head outside via the back door where there’s a grassy, south-facing garden to the rear with a BBQ (well positioned to catch those summer rays).

There's plenty of room to park up on the drive at the front too.

The neighbourhood

Cowes is the Isle of Wight’s nautical capital, renowned for internationally famous boat racing events (such as Cowes Week and the Round the Island Race) as well as a long history of shipbuilding and sailmaking too. The town’s winding High Street is home to a vibrant mix of independent retailers - including tasteful interiors shops Live Like This and Jack Thompson & Co - as well as quality restaurants and a scattering of historic pubs too. Whilst you’re in the neighbourhood don’t miss Northwood House - a listed Georgian manor surrounded by leafy public gardens which hosts unmissable annual events such as the Isle of Wight Literary Festival and The Great Wight Bite.

88 Baring Road is close to the centre of Cowes and not too far from the chain ferry to East Cowes or the foot passenger ferry to Southampton. The Esplanade is just a 500-metre stroll downhill and the seaside village of Gurnard (home to an interesting assortment of architecture) is a brief walk westwards along the seafront.

August 2024

I cannot fault the stay we had here. The house overall was lovely and spacious. it was open and breezy (especially as our stay - it was hot out). It was our first family holiday and wanted somewhere private and easy for our first time. (3 adults, 4 kids; 8, 7, 3, 1) This was perfect. We asked for the highchair & travel cot, and they even supplied kids plates, cups, cutlery, etc). The only thing that would be nit picking would be supplying a baby gate, and maybe even a box of garden toys. Overall though, we had the best holiday and we would probably book this place again. I couldn't recommend anything else, this place was beautiful (especially the sea views).
