Set on a woody slope above the shoreline at Cowes, and surrounded by lush landscaped gardens, Little Orchard provides the perfect retreat for extended families, sailing crews or those looking for a little golfing getaway. Sleeping up to 14 people, this Art Deco inspired home not only makes a great base, but it’s also within easy reach of sophisticated independent shops, enticing eateries and handy transport links back to the mainland.
After parking up on the driveway and unlocking the front door, you’ll discover a cosy interior to this sturdy brick home, with calming sage green walls and country-style interiors. The living area features soft, sinkable sofas and the occasional nautical nod from the decor, while the formal dining room offers a space to host games nights or dinner parties (perhaps with some locally-sourced produce on the menu). Moving through to the kitchen, an aga, range cooker and American-style fridge freezer await, as well as a microwave, toaster and kettle for those looking to whip up something a bit more speedily. One bedroom is tucked away on the ground floor, while a further five bedrooms are found upstairs - including an impressive master with a bay window looking out across the lawn. With a total of one double bed, five zip-and-link beds and two trundle beds, Little Orchard can easily accommodate up to 14 guests at a time.
Stepping outside, you’ll find the restful landscaped grounds, with shady trees, well-tended lawns and a patio area surrounded by Spanish bluebells. After a long day of exploring the Island, fire up the gas BBQ, set the outdoor dining table and make yourself at home - this private garden is yours to enjoy.
Historic, characterful and strongly associated with sailing, Cowes is one of the Isle of Wight’s most distinctive towns. Its long and twisting high street is home to an impressive selection of upmarket restaurants, renowned pubs and independent retailers selling everything from handmade fudge and vintage furniture to niche wines and nautical paraphernalia. Aside from all the yachting that takes place here, visitors can also tee off at Cowes Golf Club (located right behind the property) or take the Floating Bridge over to East Cowes to pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s former home at Osborne.
Little Orchard is set in a quiet part of Cowes, with off-street parking available for up to five cars. A winding woodland path directly opposite the house leads down to Mornington Road and out to the shingly shoreline within a minute or two. An easy stroll following Baring Road to the east brings you to the historic centre of the town, as well as to Northwood House, which hosts important local events such as the Isle of Wight Literary Festival.
