3 Bathrooms Tucked away in the peaceful seaside hamlet of Norton, just across the river from the historic market town of Yarmouth, is 4 Salterns. This stylish, coastal holiday home makes a perfect base for families looking to explore the best the Island’s west side has to offer, whilst still remaining close to the beaches of Colwell, Compton and Sandhard - as well as the Wightlink car ferry to Lymington.
Set up a crunchy gravel driveway with parking spaces right by the front door, guests to 4 Salterns will discover a contemporary three-storey home, overlooking a tranquil neighbourhood with its own communal lawn.
Once through the door, make your way to the first floor - the heart of this home - where you’ll find the bright and airy living room with its log burner, L-shaped sofa and Smart TV. There’s also a generously wide Juliet balcony here, with far-reaching views out onto the nearby fields and woodlands. Next door is the open plan kitchen, featuring tasteful oak worktops and a shiny Belfast sink, plus all the mod cons you could wish for (such as an integrated microwave, dishwasher, oven and even a handy little wine cooler!). The dining area has seating for eight but if the sun is shining, you’ll most likely want to take your meal out onto decked balcony which overlooks the private garden to the rear.
Heading up to the top floor, this level houses the restful master bedroom (with en-suite shower), a cosy twin and a spick and span double (which both share the modern family bathroom). Moving back down to ground level, you’ll discover an extra single bedroom with its own adjoining shower room, particularly useful for those with limited mobility.
Located in the hamlet of Norton, 4 Salterns is just a short, ten-minute stroll from Fort Victoria Country Park and the dunes and beaches of Sandhard. Crossing the Yar Bridge, you’ll find the historic harbour town of Yarmouth, known for its long wooden pier and chunky Tudor castle. The town is also home to a range of stylish and interesting retailers (take a look down Wheatsheaf Lane and the High Street in particular), plus a number of well-respected pubs, cafés and restaurants too.
From Yarmouth, there’s a stunning riverside walk you can take, past the Georgian watermill and along the old railway tracks to Freshwater - where we’d recommend ending with a drink and a meal at the highly regarded Red Lion in Church Place. Other nearby attractions include The Needles, Tapnell Farm, Dimbola Lodge and Farringford House, whilst Freshwater Bay (2.5 miles to the south) gives plenty of opportunities for swimming, surfing and even sea kayaking.

April 2024We enjoyed a wonderful week in West Bay Cottages near Freshwater. The house is lovely, in beautiful, peaceful surroundings with easy access to walks, bike rides and buses. The property is clean and everything needed for a relaxing week is provided. We only explored the west side of The Isle of Wight, and its well worth a visit, with things to do and places to see for all age groups and abilities. Swysh managed the property brilliantly with good communication. Highly recommend.

June 2023We stayed here as a group and the house was ideal for us as it was easily walkable into Yarmouth. The house as everything you need for a comfortable stay or break on the IOW and is located on a quite holiday park we ventured easily across the island from here. Would definitely recommend if your looking for a stay on the IOW. Hosts were great at communicating and helped us arrange discounted ferry tickets which is very useful! We stayed when it was reasonably warm and the only thing we would have wanted was a fan which sadly the property didn’t have. This would have been good especially with the bedrooms on the top floor they did get warm at night.

A large warm and friendly place and was easy to get to from Yarmouth port. 3 fantastic rooms on the top floor and one with en-suite and a fourth bedroom which we did not use on the ground floor. Nice open plan kitchen and living with a garden. Sarah was fantastic and responded quickly with any questions we had. Hoping to book this again soon.

Really appreciated the welcome gesture and the great communication from Suzanne, who was very helpful throughout our stay. Location is good, there is a safe path all the way to Yarmouth - a must with small children! It is real shame that the on-site pool is shut permanently, as it would really be really fantastic for this little gated community. Would love to come back!

October 2021Beautiful townhouse, great place to celebrate a special occasion as a family or with friends. Loved the open plan living and kitchen area on the first floor. Bedrooms were of good sizes and comfortable. Would recommend to other families with young children too. The house caters everyone’s needs. We walked into Yarmouth in 15mins in the evenings, you’ll need to book a table reservation for dinner everywhere as places are always fully booked up.

Being able to open up all the doors and windows made it sunny and airy, the kitchen was well equipped, the beds comfy and 6 of us (all 17 and over) were very comfortable there. Yarmouth just down the road is a very special place. Would very much recommend.

The place is as expected from the pictures - bright, airy, modern, well equipped and only five minutes from the ferry. When the weather allowed we also went for some walks around the estuary andalong the cliffs. I’d definitely stay again, either with friends or bring my family.
