Set just a short stroll from the moorings of Cowes Habour, nestled between a string of historic cottages and the town’s yellow brick Catholic church, is The J House. Stylishly renovated, this spacious four-floored home can sleep up to twelve in its bright and airy bedrooms - plus, hidden at the back of the top floor is a welcoming furnished terrace with views stretching over the rooves of the town and out towards the Solent beyond.
Once you’ve parked up outside and unlocked the front door, you’ll find a tastefully designed bolt hole with many a nautical nod to the town’s illustrious sailing past. On the ground floor, there’s a well-appointed kitchen (with not just one, but two ovens!) as well as a sleek dining area with seating for up to twelve. From here, the door leads out onto a secluded private courtyard with plenty of seating and a handy outdoor shower - perfect for summer morning pampering or to wash off the sea salt after a long day of sailing.
Also at ground level, there’s a restful living area with plump, bouncy settees, a Smart TV and sailing-inspired wall prints. Climbing up to the first and second floors, guests will discover the six tranquil bedrooms (each named after J Class yachts) - including two inviting en-suite master bedrooms. There are also two rooms with adult-sized bunk beds (handy for the yacht crews who often come to stay) plus, the four zip-and-link doubles can easily be converted into twins on request - making the accommodation here incredibly adaptable.
Under the sloping ceilings of the top floor, there’s a further lounge, flooded with sunlight and boasting far-reaching views across the masts and rigging of Cowes Marina. Taking the door to the rear, you’ll step out onto The J House’s fantastic roof terrace, which, with glimpses out to deep blue waves of the Solent, makes for a pretty unbeatable space to relax in.
Located to the very north of the Isle of Wight, Cowes is a historic port town with a long and distinguished past - known for its internationally famous sailing events (such as Cowes Week and the Round the Island Race) and its prestigious array of yacht clubs. In recent years, the town has also developed an increasing reputation for its wining and dining, with classy restaurants including Smoking Lobster, The Coast Bar, Heron at Cowes and The Garden setting up shop along Shooters Hill and the High Street. You’ll also find plenty of arty, independent retailers, a cluster of colourful Georgian cottages around Sun Hill and a relaxing coastal walk leading to the nearby village of Gurnard.
The J House is located in the very heart of Cowes, next door to the Grade II listed Catholic church (built back in the 1790s) and just across the road from the M&S Foodhall. The Red Jet passenger ferry to Southampton is just a three-minute walk to the west, while the floating bridge to East Cowes is just 650 metres away. The property has parking for one small car at the front and further unrestricted on-street parking can be found in nearby Ward Avenue.
