Set just a short stroll from the moorings of Cowes Habour, nestled between a string of historic cottages and the town’s yellow brick Catholic church, is The J House. Stylishly renovated, this spacious four-floored home can sleep up to twelve in its bright and airy bedrooms - plus, hidden at the back of the top floor is a welcoming furnished terrace with views stretching over the rooves of the town and out towards the Solent beyond.
Once you’ve parked up outside and unlocked the front door, you’ll find a tastefully designed bolt hole with many a nautical nod to the town’s illustrious sailing past. On the ground floor, there’s a well-appointed kitchen (with not just one, but two ovens!) as well as a sleek dining area with seating for up to twelve. From here, the door leads out onto a secluded private courtyard with plenty of seating and a handy outdoor shower - perfect for summer morning pampering or to wash off the sea salt after a long day of sailing.
Also at ground level, there’s a restful living area with plump, bouncy settees, a Smart TV and sailing-inspired wall prints. Climbing up to the first and second floors, guests will discover the six tranquil bedrooms (each named after J Class yachts) - including two inviting en-suite master bedrooms. There are also two rooms with adult-sized bunk beds (handy for the yacht crews who often come to stay) plus, the four zip-and-link doubles can easily be converted into twins on request - making the accommodation here incredibly adaptable.
Under the sloping ceilings of the top floor, there’s a further lounge, flooded with sunlight and boasting far-reaching views across the masts and rigging of Cowes Marina. Taking the door to the rear, you’ll step out onto The J House’s fantastic roof terrace, which, with glimpses out to deep blue waves of the Solent, makes for a pretty unbeatable space to relax in.
Located to the very north of the Isle of Wight, Cowes is a historic port town with a long and distinguished past - known for its internationally famous sailing events (such as Cowes Week and the Round the Island Race) and its prestigious array of yacht clubs. In recent years, the town has also developed an increasing reputation for its wining and dining, with classy restaurants including Smoking Lobster, The Coast Bar, Heron at Cowes and The Garden setting up shop along Shooters Hill and the High Street. You’ll also find plenty of arty, independent retailers, a cluster of colourful Georgian cottages around Sun Hill and a relaxing coastal walk leading to the nearby village of Gurnard.
The J House is located in the very heart of Cowes, next door to the Grade II listed Catholic church (built back in the 1790s) and just across the road from the M&S Foodhall. The Red Jet passenger ferry to Southampton is just a three-minute walk to the west, while the floating bridge to East Cowes is just 650 metres away. The property has parking for one small car at the front and further unrestricted on-street parking can be found in nearby Ward Avenue.
No smoking and no pets please.
Entire space is included in this rental. Please, make yourself at home.
The Swysh Team are here for you during your stay, but our level of interaction is up to you. We're only a phone call or message away. You will be able to self check-in upon arrival.
There is parking for one car on the paved area in front of the house but please be extremely careful when parking here. It's a very tight space and all 4 wheels need to be on the paved area to prevent you for getting a fine for parking on the pavement. There is also paid parking at Northwood House car park a short walk from the house.
The property will be available from 4pm on your day of arrival and check out time on the day of departure is 10am.
The property is equipped with everything you will need including utilities, bed linen and towels.
We can offer discounted ferry travel for you on Red Funnel and Wight Link. Please let us know of your interest at the time of booking and we can provide you with a quote.

January 2022amazing location in the centre of West Cowes. walkable to all areas of Cowes and shops. one parking space at property and Swysh advised of the nearest free street parking. house was extremely clean and very well furnished and supplied. (2 ovens. perfect for cooking for 12). we felt at home right away, we all slept great and despite filling the place you never feel on top of each other thanks to the en suite bathrooms and the 2 lounges. 2 lounge rooms was great. one with a big TV and one at the top with great views. a great chill out room and you can't hear the TV from there. Suzanne from Swysh was incredibly helpful despite it being the Xmas period. we had a few potential complications due to covid and ferry times and they were incredibly helpful. we also got great rates for the ferry from Southampton via them as well. thought of everything. we had a great 5 days exploring the island, doing some walks and then relaxing in the J house. went too quickly, would love to return. thanks Suzanne and Swysh team for making it a hassle free and relaxing week away.

December 2021If I could give this place 6 stars I would. The attention to detail with regards to the quality of finish and furniture to create a warm home away from home feeling was done to perfection. The owners have thought of everything here to make your stay the best it could be the house is well equipped with luxury towels bedding and more. There is enough space to be part of the group or get some quiet time. Each room has all you need and extremely comfy. The bunk beds are very sturdy ideal for kids or adults. I would 100% plan to come back and stay here as the whole family gave the place 10/10.

November 2021We had a fantastic time at the ‘J House’ - extremely comfortable, homely, but very stylishly furnished and ornamented. The house is equipped with pretty much everything you are likely to require. Location wise, the house is ideally situated, a good size m&s food over the road, but a sainsburys local less than a 5 minute walk. A 2 minute walk onto W.Cowes fantastic high street with lots of small independent shops, great pubs and restaurants - although worth booking ahead during busy times. Despite being so close to the centre of W.Cowes, getting out of town is straight forward meaning you’re little more than a 30-40min drive to anywhere on the island. Slight draw back is the on-site parking being quite small, but this was little issue as you can load / unload easily outside the property and there’s a large Pay and Display car park a 5 min walk up the road (with options for long term parking up to 7 days and beyond). A fantastic experience, great location - would highly recommend!
